Berton Petite Sirah Australia 2018Regular price $15.00
Not to be confused with Syrah, Petite Sirah (also known as Durif, named after the breeder) is its own distinct, and increasingly popular varietal. At least in the New World, where hot weather and long hang times bring out all the fruit this midnight-skinned grape has to offer.
Inky purple fruits, violets, and pho spices dominate the nose, with mouth-filling ripeness on the palate. They only let it see a few months in oak, so the natural tannins are integrated but could still use 30 min to an hour to soften.
Food Ideas: rack of lamb or ribeye, black trumpet mushroom gnocchi, smoked chicken w/Alabama BBQ sauce, charred vegetable skewers
