Cantina del Morellino 'Cala Civetta' Sangiovese 2022 (Tuscany, Italy)
Cantina del Morellino is a family owned cooperative consisting of an interconnected network of about 170 small growers- many of which are multigenerational and hold an average of only 4 Hectare of land apiece. Overseen by chief enologist Paolo Caciorgna, the Cantina is wholly devoted to organic farming and sustainability.
This Sangiovese (blended with just a touch of Alicante Bouschet) comes from the vineyards of the hilltop town Scansano, nestled halfway between the Tyrrhenian Sea and Mt. Amiata. An earthy nose with notes of red plum accompany a vibrant yet mildly tannic palate of tart cherry and just a hint of smoke and ocean brine - a true expression of where it comes from!
