Ego Bodegas 'Goru Verde' Monastrell 2020 (Jumilla, Spain)
This region of southeast Spain escaped the devastation of phylloxera for a full century, mostly on account of the sandy soils found in this transitional zone between the mountains and the Med. Eventually succumbing to the pest in the late 80s, Jumilla is only now showing back up on the world stage of winemaking.
Modern vintners like Ego Bodegas can take advantage of the affordable real estate to launch passion projects that highlight organic farming and indigenous varietals. This 100% Monastrell (also known as Mourvedre) is bursting with violets, blueberries, and figs. The palate is rich and round, softening with about 30 minutes to an hour of air.
Food Ideas: cheese and dried fruit boards, grilled turkey burgers w/olive tapenade, potstickers and dumplings (spicy), red bean chili
Alcohol: 14.5%
