Cantine Sant'agata 'Na Vota' Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG 2017 (Piedmont, Italy)
Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato is a unique, little known Italian varietal, with only about 100 acres planted in Piedmont (one of the lowest production varietals in Italy!). Long overlooked, the Cavallero family of Cantine Sant’agata experimented with their first bottling of it in 1990, and haven’t looked back since! The name of the wine, ‘Na Vota, translates roughly to “once upon a time” in Piemontese.
A very aromatic wine, we get notes of black pepper, brambly berries, and rose petals on the nose with a hint of culinary herbs. The palate is flush with notes of dried florals, rich baking spice, and juicy black raspberry. Moderate acidity and velvety tannins round it out and lead in to a near-endless finish.
Food Ideas: Nduja stuffed fried olives, braised lamb shank ravioli, bleu cheese & tomato plate, venison back-strap with red wine sauce and wild mushrooms
ABV: 13.5%
