Herdade Do Esporao 'Monte Velho' White Blend Alentajano, Portugal 2018Regular price $13.00
The Alentejo region of Portugal, just SE of Lisbon, has been producing olive oil and wine since Medieval times. They’ve definitely got some stuff figured out. The Monte Velho winery sits in the shadow of its namesake, with vineyards on soil rich with ancient seabed and volcanic deposits. Did we mention the cork oak forests as well? And possibly wizards?
The indigenous grapes in this blend, Antão Vas, Roupeiro, and Perrum lead with an aromatic nose of stone fruits and citrus, the palate follows with fresh citrus and a vibrant, minerally finish.
Food Ideas: smoked sardines w/preserved lemon tapenade, white bean and sage soup, grilled halibut, cioppino
