Domaine de Damase Grenache Vaucluse 2021 (Rhone, France)
In some kind of upside-down place, on opposite day, a portal opened for a brief moment and the Domaine de la Damase wines became available to the US by way of a California winemaker sponsoring a French winemaker. We know, it's crazy. But back in 2011, Sebastien Latour interned for Kenny Likitprakong (Hobo Wine Co.) and a lasting friendship was born.
This 100% (organically farmed) Grenache is fermented whole-cluster in concrete vats, then aged in old oak foudres (giant vessels that impart no tannin), allowing the fresh-fruited juice to shine. This palate is rustic and chunky, with loads of dark red and black fruit on the palate and notes of pink peppercorn on the nose. Not your typical fruit punch Grenache!
Food Ideas: braised short ribs, gypsy stew, carnitas tacos, adobo turkey legs w/mashed sweet potatoes, tofu sloppy joes
Alcohol: 14.5%
