Devil's Corner Chardonnay 2022 (Tasmania, Australia)
Named for a particularly treacherous bend on the coast of East Tasmania (the mountain range that abuts the coast is similarly named “The Hazards”), the Devil’s Corner Winery has learned not to fight the elements, but how and when to leverage them in the making of delicious wines like this Chardonnay!
Although it does see some oak (15% of the wine is aged in barrels before the wine spends 3 months in aged French oak puncheons), this wine drinks more like a Chablis, surprisingly light and bright, showing nectarine, green apple, and lemon as well as a chalky minerality that is remarkably similar to that of its French counterpart.
Food: anything ‘cacio e pepe’, smoked cauliflower soup, seared rockfish with nettle sauce, chicken tikka masala
