Domaine Carrel & Senger Mondeause 2019 (Savoie, France)
Domaine Carrel & Senger has been operated by Eugene Carrel’s family for 6 generations. Now helmed by Savoie native Thomas Senger, the two aim to produce wines that are expressive of the beautiful region they come from as well as embracing sustainable farming practice.
Mondeuse is a unique grape varietal indigenous to the Savoie region of Southeastern France. Related to Syrah, with which it shares notes of dark fruit, pepper, and rustic tannins, this varietal also shares some of the same juicy, red fruit qualities as Gamay. If you’re a fan of either of those varietals this is a must try! Elegant and fresh, this wine still has a bit of tannin, so be prepared to give it 20-30 minutes of air to open up.
Food Ideas: Herb crusted rack of lamb, steak & ale pie, Lebanese stuffed eggplant, warm goat cheese salad, turkey & wild rice stew
