The third Thursday of November, Beaujolais producers release their Nouveau wines, young wines fermented for a few scant weeks in carbonic maceration, which minimizes bitter tannins and highlights fresh red berry notes and fruity esters. These wines are best drunk young. That means now!
Domaine Foretal is run by Jean-Yves Perraud, a fifth generation winemaker who uses sustainable farming practices and alternatives to pesticides. His Nouveau is bright, juicy, and perfect with Thanksgiving fare — a welcome beam of sunshine in cold weather. Drinks better with a slight chill (45 min in the frig).
