Georgas Hoot Red 1.5L Attica, Greece 2019Regular price $32.00
The price looks a bit high until you remind yourself that this is equivalent to two bottles of wine. For $16/bottle,you get an organic, biodynamic, natural red that is dry, light to medium bodied and an interesting blend of Merlot, Syrah and Savatiano, a native white grape.
Along with juicy dark red and black fruit, a bit of black pepper, and earthiness, this red has a touch of barnyard on the nose. This barnyard note comes from Brettanomyces, or “Brett” for short, a kind of wild yeast that can be found on grape skins or in oak barrels that sometimes makes its way into the winemaking process. Too much Brett can be a flaw. Just a touch, like this wine, and it can add a bit of funk and edge in a good way.
This red is fermented with wild yeasts and sees only light sulfite use. It would be great at a barbeque (meat or veggies) or on a camping trip. It will keep longer after opened if kept in the refrigerator.
