Grochau Cellars 'Convivial' Tempranillo 2021 (Willamette Valley, Oregon)
The Convivial wines are a new addition to the Grochau Cellars portfolio, which has been producing bright, balanced, famously food friendly wines since 2002. The idea behind this project is to make wines that are energetic and bursting with flavor!
This unique Oregon red is a refreshing example of cool climate Tempranillo. Think of it much like you would France’s Côt versus Argentina’s Malbec- same grape, but stylistically very different. You can’t hide Tempranillo’s relatively high tannins- so while this is indeed a juicy and fun wine, patience is key. Give it around 2 hours of decanting and those chalky tannins dissipate into a palate of plush black cherry, pepper, and a hint tobacco.
Food: BBQ pork chops off the grill, polenta with roasted cherry tomatoes, Margherita pizza, striped bass in tomato broth, jamon serrano and aged cheeses
ABV: 12%
