Herdade do Rocim Alicante Bouschet Alentejo Portugal 2018Regular price $25.00
This region in southern Portugal is sometimes referred to as “the New World in the Old World,” for its ability to produce ripe, lush wines. These organically-grown 40-year old Alicante Bouschet vines, co-planted with the family’s olive trees, definitely enjoy the hot summers here and bring high yields. The red-fleshed grape thrives here and in Southern France, popular for its high yields and full flavor.
Foot crushing, the use of ambient yeast, only a year in barrel and no filtration at bottling keep this wine lively where it can sometimes be overwrought. We get the characteristic Alicante spiciness, wrapped up in ripe black fruits with well-balanced tannins and minerality to finish. Decant for 30 min-45 min.
Food Ideas: chorizo and white bean stew, blue cheese burgers, charred octopus w/harissa sauce, salt cod bacalhau fritters in tomato sauce
