Lagar de Indra Albarino 2022 (Rias Baixas, Spain)
You know a place is proud of their grape when they’ll jump through all the classification hoops just to elevate the name of one varietal. Here in Rias Baixas they were more concerned that Albarino get the credit it deserves than the region even. Though the Atlantic coastal terroir here in NW Spain is pretty worthy of special treatment as well, with its low-lying sandy soils seemingly impervious to phylloxera, and capable of producing vibrant, bright fruit.
This varietal is naturally high in acidity, but grown near the ocean also takes on a lovely salinity to balance the round palate of stone fruits. Take some time with the aromas on this one and be transported!
Food Ideas: soft and salty cheeses, scallop ceviche, risotto, paella (of course), steamed mussels w/chorizo, pork chop w/pickled peaches, appetizer hour
Alcohol: 13%
