Tinta de Toro, a clonal varietal of Tempranillo, is the star grape of the Toro DO, where sandy soil and continental climate give the grapes a robust minerality and heady ripening potential. These qualities, along with the grape’s abundant tannins, yield a supremely ageable wine.
This earthy, juicy specimen from Bodega Matsu represents a winery at the top of their craft! Matsu takes their name from the Japanese verb “to wait”, which exemplifies their low-intervention approach to winemaking. We get lovely red berries and pomegranate, rich loamy earth, and velvety structure. We’d also suggest giving this one up to an hour hours of air to let the tannins soften. Think of it as an extension of the Matsu philosophy — it’s worth the wait!
