Ottosoldi Gavi DOCG Piedmont (Gavi), Italy 2019Regular price $17.00
Given the right conditions, the Cortese grape can produce a complex wine with richness, minerality, and good acidity. The 3rd generation Moccagetta brothers have the right conditions in spades. The vineyards face southwest, perfect for the grape, and are nestled between the hills of Gavi on marl and limestone soil. The name is a tribute to their grandfather who referred to the land as “Otto Soldi”—meaning eight coins and what he paid for it.
Rich notes of peach, melon, and dried citrus fruits with flinty minerality and zippy acidity on the finish. A bit more than eight coins, but still a bargain.
Food Ideas: Grilled pesto chicken kebab, gnocchi tossed in butter and Parmesan, grilled fish with nectarine or peach salsa, tamales
