Portal da Calcada Red Douro Portugal 2016Regular price $14.00
This blend of sustainably grown indigenous Portuguese varietals comes from the higher altitude vineyards northwest of Oporto called Amarante. Old vines planted here have a slightly cooler climate than the sun-baked Douro valley, giving us a more textured rendition of these grapes.
We get a spicy nose with notes of tobacco, followed by a plump palate of blackberries and strawberries. Give it about 30 minutes to soften the tannins and pull itself together.
Food Ideas: chicken and sausage gumbo, braised braciole in Sunday sauce, moussaka, chocolate mole
