Pinot Grigio can so easily become camouflaged in the vast array of easy drinking white wines. Which is such a shame for a grape with so much unique character. Did you know that Pinot Grigio (also referred to as Pinot Gris in regions outside Italy) is a mutation of the Pinot Noir grape? Named for its cone-shaped clusters (pinot) and pinkish-grey tinged skin (gris), it actually wasn't widely vinified as a white wine until the 1960s. Even today it's a grape that shows beautifully when the juice gets extended skin contact, imparting deeper color, texture, and even a touch of tannin.

Here in Friuli, Pinot Grigio is harvested early to retain the characteristic acidity that the Italian palate favors. Grown on limestone and aged in steel this PG is light to medium bodied with lovely orchard fruit and citrus notes. A great sunny day sipper!
