Verso Rosso (Primitivo/Negroamaro) Salento, Italy 2017Regular price $16.00
Verso is a full-bodied, luscious wine made with a small percent of ‘appassimento,’ or raisined grapes. This blend hails from the heel of Italy (Salento, to be precise) and is vinified by a family near Abruzzo (Molise, to be precise).
Rich dark fruit on the nose with spicy earth. The palate is filled with blackberry, plum, and dark cherry with oak adding weight, nice acidity, and medium firm tannins on the finish. Give 1 hour decanting for a softer wine. Our favorite note may well be from the importer: It is a hedonistic experience that captures the polished side of Negroamaro and Primitivo. (Semi-pretentious wine speak, to be precise.)
Food Ideas: Blue cheese polenta topped with wild mushrooms, grilled filet, red wine marinated grilled chicken thighs, braised beets over lentils
