Vidigal Vinho Tinto 3L Box (Lisboa Portugal)
We thought we were drinking an imaginary $10-$12 Grenache/Pinot Noir, not the equivalent of 4 bottles of Portuguese red wine for $6.25 each. We get dark red berries on the nose and palate with nice weight, touches of earthy spice, good acidity and light tannins on the finish. **Please note that this is not the box version of the Vidigal Reserva. The label looks similar but the Reserva is more full bodied and different grapes.**
Why a box? 1) Open wine stays fresh for over 4-6 weeks (everybody has their own opinions after 4 weeks). The internal container collapses without allowing oxygen in. 2) Much lower carbon footprint. Cardboard weighs a small fraction of four glass bottles.
Food Ideas: Mexican black been sweet potato, spinach pasta with sauce of mashed cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, butter braised white beans and shaved pecorino, jambalaya, cauliflower tacos with creamy chipotle sauce
