Grassl Gruner Zweigelt 2023 (Carnuntum, Austria)
Philip Grassl’s family has been making wine in Carnuntum since the 1950s, but it took some convincing before he finally agreed to take the helm in 2006. Interestingly enough, it was his time spent working a wine internship in Sonoma County that finally motivated him to embrace the family business back home. Driven by his credo, “let the vineyard speak,” Philip utilizes organic and biodynamic practices in the vineyards and a minimal intervention winemaking style at the winery.
Coming from a mix of old and young vines, this Zweigelt is both complex and lively. Bright notes of juicy red fruit and brambly berries are balanced by earthy black pepper and fine tannins. This versatile wine is just as good with a light chill on the patio as it is sitting around the campfire!
Food Ideas: Pork belly bao buns, herby tomato-poached white fish, pork schnitzel with warm potato salad, fire-roasted bratwursts
ABV: 12.5%
