Raul Moreno 'La Esencia' Red Cadiz 2022 (Andalucia, Spain)
Winemaker Raul Moreno is a modern day wine renaissance man. He left his home in Sevilla as a teenager and moved to London to learn English and landed a job working in a restaurant kitchen, where he started learning about wine and developing a passion for it, eventually moving on to become a trained sommelier. Raul then moved to Australia to pursue diplomas in both Oenology and Viticulture. With a new found passion for winemaking, he moved back to his hometown to make wine in Jerez - a region he became increasingly enamored with throughout his time spent studying wine. Never one to shy away from a challenge or experiments with styles and varietals, Raul is bringing his own spin to one of the most established and historic wine regions in the world.
This red is an intriguing blend of 40% Tintilla, 25% Palomino, 25% Pedro Ximénez, and 10% Perruno (you might recognize some traditional sherry varietals here!). The different varieties are co-fermented in 1000L unlined clay pots. This unique and adventurous bottle has incredible depth as well as a stunningly lively character.
