Fabre Montmayou Cabernet Franc Reserva 2021 (Mendoza Argentina)
If this bottle has a certain old-world classic charm about it, you’re not mistaken. When Hervé Fabre, son of Bordeaux negociants, arrived in Argentina in the ‘90s and bought up all the old vines that other winemakers thought too fussy and low-yielding to work with, his someday vision was to make wine that could rival his home country’s.
To us, this Cab Franc drinks like a structured, noble varietal for sure. Full bodied, with rich dark fruits, a touch of leather, supple tannins, and a smooth finish (see note below for decanting instructions to get the smooth finish). A hint of that characteristic enzymatic peppery spice around the edges, but overall a proud, broad-shouldered wine that tastes like it’s been at it for centuries.
Give this red a 45 min to a full hour of decanting.
Food Ideas: Durham's Tracklements smoked duck breast, roasted root vegetable hash, steak frites, BBQ
