Grassl Gruner Veltliner 2023 (Carnuntum, Austria)
Initially resistant to the idea of taking up the family trade, largely due to Austrian wine’s fall from grace after its big additive scandal in the 1980s, Philip Grassl has been making exceptional wine at his family’s estate since 2006. Driven by his philosophy “let the vineyard speak,” Philip approaches every aspect of his winemaking with a holistic view, embracing organic farming and biodynamic practices in the vineyards and a low-intervention approach when it comes time to vinify.
This Grüner is fresh and minerally with a vibrant acidity. Notes of ripe pear and green apple are balanced by a wet-stone minerality, all complimented by a delicate hint of peppery spice and a touch of savory dried herbs on the finish.
Food Ideas: Thai green curry, asparagus tempura, chicken paprikash, creamy mushroom and leek pasta, crab cakes with spicy aioli
ABV: 12.5%
