Moric Blaufrankisch 2023 (Burgenland, Austria)
Weingut Moric is one of the premier Blaunfrankisch producers in Austria, helmed by Roland Velich. Based out of Burgenland, one of Austria’s southernmost wine producing regions, the vineyards benefit from the more moderate climate here. Roland’s goal is simple: make wine simply so that his bottles are a pure expression of where they come from.
This “entry level” Blaufrankish is anything but basic. Made in an early drinking style from younger vines (10-50 years old), this is an age-worthy wine that is also incredibly drinkable while still young and fresh. Very approachable with velvety tannins, peppery spice, a lovely earthiness, and gorgeous red and black fruit. Supervibrant and energetic while also being wonderfully complex.
Food Ideas: Beef goulash, herb crusted lamb chops, bratwursts with dijon mustard and caramelized onions, duck cassoulet
ABV: 12.5%
