Achaia Cellars Xinomavro 2020 (Naoussa, Greece)
Achaia Cellars was founded in the village of Naoussa on the Greek island of Paros in 1861. Founder Gustav Clauss, originally from Germany, quickly gained international fame for his sweet Mavrodaphne wine, establishing Achaia’s place in the Greek wine world. In 1918 Clauss sold to Achaia’s first Greek owner, Vlassis Antonopoulos, and it has remained Greek-owned and managed ever since.
Xinomavro is widely considered to be one of Greece’s most important red varietals, most often associated with the Naoussa wine appellation. This medium-bodied red is bursting with notes of ripe red fruits and brambly berries, while notes of baking spice, black pepper, and a pleasant earthiness offer just enough structure and tannin to balance out the fruit.
