Arnaud Lambert 'Clos Mazurique' Cabernet Franc Saumur 2022 (Loire Valley, France)
Though Chateau Brézé has been revered since the 17th Century (once fetching a barrel to barrel exchange for the legendary Chat. d'Yquem Sauternes), it wasn't until this young winemaker took the reins in 2009 that folks started talking about the estate's Cab Franc. Lambert brings Burgundian training and sensibilities to the winemaking here, converting the vineyards to organic farming and honing in on each specific site's distinct nature, with laser precision.
Clos Mazurique sits on ancient tuffeau limestone, imparting a standout acidity to wines grown here, both red and white. This Cab Franc is no exception, with a textured, linear palate of acidity. We also get wet forest, red fruits and flowers on the nose, with light, airy tannins and a gravelly minerality to finish. Such a lovely Loire wine, from a producer we predict you'll be hearing more about in the future...
Food Ideas: country paté w/stoneground mustard, fried artichoke hearts over bitter greens, tea-smoked duck breast, wild mushroom risotto
