Cantina Sociale Cooperativa Copertino Riserva 2015 (Puglia, Italy)
In 1935, 36 local winegrowers founded the Cantina Sociale Cooperativa di Copertino, united by the shared goal of producing their own wines using indigenous varietals from their vineyards. Now numbering around 1,000 small growers, they have been successfully crafting high quality, high value wines imbued with local tradition and wisdom for decades.
This wine is a blend of 95% Negroamaro and 5% Malvasia Nera from those vineyards in Copertino, a small town in the center of Salento in Italy’s heel. We get nice age showing on the nose and palate, creating mature fruit and well integrated oak and tannins. Dark berry fruit, licorice, earthy spice, and nice acidity round out this elegant red.
Food Ideas: Fresh tomato bruschetta, eggplant parmesan, grilled pork with rosemary and spinach, burgers off the grill
