Domaine Philemon Jurancon Noir Cotes du Tarn, France 2020
Here in sunny Gaillac, cooled by Mediterranean breezes, is perhaps the only place Jurancon Noir can properly ripen. A cross between Folle Blanche and Côt (AKA Malbec), it’s a rambunctious vine, sensitive to temperature and requiring strident pruning.
At Domaine Philemon, also a working organic farm, they understand their plants well. So we’re rewarded with perfectly ripened dark, spicy fruit, a perfume of dried purple flowers and wet earth. The palate has a gentle minerality and a touch of pip, making a great food wine.
Food Ideas: Choucroute Garnie, roasted salmon with lentil pilaf, cream of mushroom soup, card games
