
El Coto Rioja Crianza 2021 (Rioja, Spain)
Founded in 1970, El Coto de Rioja built their first cellar in the town of Oyón in the Álava region of Rioja, hugging the Cantabrian mountains and just a stone’s throw away from the Atlantic ocean. By the 1990s the winery had accrued massive international acclaim, and while they have since expanded their vineyards (by 2004 their Los Almendros vineyard was the largest in Rioja!), they have never wavered from their commitment to organic farming.
This 100% Tempranillo sees at least 12 months in oak and an additional 6 months of bottle aging before it leaves the cellar. Notes of brambly berries and dark fruits meet warm spices and a hint of black pepper. Fine tannins provide elegant structure and make for a delightfully complex yet easy drinking wine.
