Mari Vineyards Gamay Noir 2023 (Old Mission Peninsula, Michigan)
Mari Vineyards founder Marty Lagina planted his first vines in Michigan’s Old Mission Peninsula in 1999. As an homage to his Italian grandmother, Terese Mari (who is also the namesake for the winery!) Marty made the unorthodox choice to plant Italian varietals like Nebbiolo and Sangiovese alongside varietal well known to Michigan vineyards such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Riesling, and his tasting room is styled after a Tuscan villa!
This 100% Gamay is very much inspired by French Beaujolais wines. Notes of brambly berries and bright red fruits meet black pepper and a hint of earthiness, with juicy acidity and smooth tannins providing nice structure.
Food Ideas: Falafel shawarma, roast chicken with schmaltzy potatoes, mushroom stroganoff, brown sugar & dijon glazed salmon
ABV: 12.5%
