Mary Taylor Anne Sarda Carignan Coteaux de Cabrerisse 2021 (Languedoc, France)
The small Languedoc appellation of Coteaux de Cabrerisse sits on stony, dry soils of limestone and clay. The rugged, wild landscape makes vine cultivation difficult, but winemaker Anne Sarda and her team diligently do the grueling vineyard work by hand, assuring an authentic and thoughtfully made wine from vine to bottle.
Employing a far more delicate touch in the cellar, Anne allows the spontaneous fermentation by native yeasts to take place in concrete tanks, lending to a very intense and pure expression of Carignan. Bright red fruit like cranberry and currant are accompanied by notes of wild herbs and baking spices. Fresh and dry, this wine is excellent with a slight chill.
