Querceto Chianti D.O.C.G. 2021 (Tuscany, Italy)
The family of winemakers at Castello di Querceto (meaning “Castle of the Oaks” for the oak forest amidst which their vines lie) boasts an impressive history in the region: not only did they help form the Consorzio del Chianti Classico, the oldest Consortium of wine producers in Italy — they also played a critical role in the Tuscan “new wave”, incorporating international varietals in what we now call Super Tuscans.
This wine is a more modest affair: a decidedly lighter approach to the Chianti style, with Canaiolo and Trebbiano added to bolster the Sangiovese’s acidity and soften its tannins, this wine pours a gorgeous ruby red in the glass. We get sour cherry, fresh herbs, and, forest earth - super versatile with food!
