Tolaini 'Al Passo' Toscana Rosso 2021 (Tuscany, Italy)
This wine takes its name, Al Passo, from a circular forest located at the highest point of the Montebello vineyard on the Tolaini estate. It roughly translates to “at the passage,” referring to an ancient Etruscan tomb located in the forest that dates back over 2500 years. Equal parts Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. This style of wine is known as a “Super Tuscan,” popularized in the late 1960s when Tuscan vintners had grown frustrated with the rules and labeling terms around local wine production.
This full-bodied red is bursting with notes of ripe berries and dark fruit accentuated by touches of dried herbs, earth, leather, and a hint of spice. Well integrated tannins provide great structure and a long, deeply complex finish.
Food Ideas: Wild boar bolognese, grilled ribeye steak, lamb & veggie kebabs, sausage & white bean stew, spaghetti & meatballs
